He has two siblings: a producer/agent named Cassian Elwes and an artist named Damian Elwes. Cary was born and raised in London, where he attended the prestigious Harrow School. After completing his studies at Harrow, he moved to the United States to pursue his passion for acting at Sarah Lawrence College. However, he left college after two years to kickstart his film career.
