About La tête froide

'La tête froide' (also known as 'Cold Head') is a gripping French drama directed by Pierre Lacan, released in 2012. The movie features an ensemble of talented actors, most notably Florence Loiret Caille, who delivers a standout performance as the complex and conflicted protagonist, Marie. Saabo Balde also shines as Souleymane, a young migrant whose journey intertwines with Marie's in unexpected ways.

Marie is a woman in her forties, living a solitary life in the picturesque yet isolated Hautes-Alpes region of France. Her only connection to the outside world is through her lover, Alex, a border policeman who helps her smuggle cigarettes between Italy and France to make a living. Marie is haunted by her past and has become disconnected from her family, making her a somewhat tragic figure. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when she encounters Souleymane, a 20-year-old Sudanese migrant, determined to reunite with his younger sister in France.

As the story unfolds, Souleymane manages to guess Marie's secret occupation and persuades her to help him and other migrants cross the border. This sets off a chain of events that challenges Marie's moral compass and forces her to confront her own feelings of isolation, fear, and guilt. As she becomes more involved in Souleymane's journey, she begins to question her choices and the consequences they have on the lives of those around her. Through these interactions, Marie discovers a sense of purpose and belonging that she had long forgotten, ultimately leading to a powerful and thought-provoking climax.
