The Blues Brothers Collection is a fantastic duo of American musical crime comedy films, both of which have become cult classics for their blend of comedy, amazing soundtracks, and high-speed car chases. The first film, "The Blues Brothers" (1980), was directed by John Landis and stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, who portray "Joliet" Jake and Elwood Blues, two characters originally developed from a beloved musical sketch on NBC's variety show, Saturday Night Live.
"The Blues Brothers" follows Jake and Elwood on a mission to save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up, which is threatened with closure due to outstanding taxes. In an effort to raise the money, they decide to put their band back together and perform a one-off concert. Along the way, they encounter numerous obstacles and characters, including an Illinois Nazi group, an ex-lover seeking revenge, and the relentless pursuit of a determined policewoman. The film is known for its incredible soundtrack, featuring artists such as Ray Charles, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin, as well as the incredible car chases throughout its runtime.
The second film in the collection, "Blues Brothers 2000" (1998), serves as a sequel to the original and carries on many of its comedic and musical elements. John Landis returned to direct and Dan Aykroyd reprised his role as Elwood Blues, this time joined by John Goodman, Joe Morton, and a young J. Evan Bonifant. The plot picks up years later, with Elwood being released from prison and tasked with bringing a new band together, while also protecting a young orphan who may be his brother's son. The musical performances and car chases in this sequel don't disappoint, with a fresh soundtrack and intense chase sequences that rival those of its predecessor. If you're a fan of the original "The Blues Brothers," "Blues Brothers 2000" offers a nostalgic and enjoyable return to the world of the Blues Brothers.
