Urban Cowboy follows Bud Davis, a country boy who relocates to Pasadena, Texas, seeking a new life. Soon after arriving, Bud becomes a regular at Gilley's, a bustling honky-tonk bar known for its lively music and mechanical bull riding. It’s here that Bud meets Sissy, a spirited cowgirl with strong beliefs in gender equality, challenging the traditional roles Bud holds.
As their relationship develops, Bud and Sissy fall in love and eventually tie the knot. However, their marriage is far from smooth. Their differing views on gender roles create tension, with Bud adhering to conventional ideas while Sissy strives for independence and equality. This clash causes frequent disputes and tests their commitment to each other over time.
The situation worsens when jealousy over a rival further strains their bond, ultimately leading to separation. Despite the challenges, Bud is determined to win Sissy back and prove his devotion. His efforts culminate in a dramatic showdown at Gilley’s mechanical bull-riding competition, where he hopes that victory will help rekindle their love and restore their relationship.
