Toy Story, the groundbreaking animated film released in 1995, tells the story of a group of toys that come to life when humans aren't present. The movie is a classic tale of friendship and learning to accept change, set in the world of a young boy named Andy's bedroom.
The main characters in Toy Story are Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll, and Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger action figure. Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, is Andy's favorite toy and has been for many years. He is a bit of a control freak, and is used to being the center of Andy's attention. However, when Andy receives Buzz, voiced by Tim Allen, as a birthday present, Woody feels threatened and begins to plot against him.
Buzz, who believes he is a real space ranger, is oblivious to Woody's schemes and quickly becomes popular with the other toys. Woody, feeling left out and jealous, tries to get rid of Buzz, but their plan goes awry and they end up being lost outside of Andy's room. The rest of the movie follows Woody and Buzz as they learn to work together and overcome their differences in order to find their way back home. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including a mean neighbor's dog and a treacherous journey through a toy store. Through it all, Woody and Buzz learn that they have more in common than they thought and that true friendship can overcome any obstacle.
Directed by John Lasseter, Toy Story was the first feature-length film made entirely with CGI animation. The movie was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $360 million worldwide and winning several awards, including a Special Achievement Academy Award for its groundbreaking animation. The movie spawned three sequels, all of which were also critical and commercial successes. Toy Story remains a beloved classic, and its themes of friendship and acceptance continue to resonate with audiences today.
