It follows Fräulein Maria, a spirited postulant played by Julie Andrews, who becomes the governess for the seven children of the widowed naval Captain Georg von Trapp, portrayed by Christopher Plummer. Through her love of life and music, Maria brings joy and warmth back to the von Trapp household and ultimately helps the family find courage to escape the encroaching war.
Trivia:

2. The outdoor scenes were filmed in the scenic Austrian Alps, and the von Trapp family home shown in the movie is actually the Schloss Frohnburg in Salzburg.
3. Julie Andrews had previously won a Tony Award and was already a celebrated stage actress before her breakthrough film role in "The Sound of Music." This movie solidified her status as a Hollywood star.
