Showbands

Set in 1960s Ireland, 'Showbands' centers on Tony, who is fighting to save his ballroom from financial ruin by turning an unknown female singer, Denise, into a star. The show captures the vibrancy of the era's showband scene, with a focus on music, ambition, and community. Among the interesting trivia is that Philip O'Sullivan, who plays Fr. Healy, actually has a background in theater, which adds depth to his portrayal. Additionally, Rory Keenan, cast as Keith, impressed the crew with his spontaneous musical performances during filming, bringing an authentic feel to the musical scenes. The production team also went to great lengths to recreate the 1960s ballroom atmosphere, sourcing vintage instruments and costumes to ensure period accuracy.
