Shiloh is a heartfelt drama centered around a young boy named Marty Preston and his deep bond with an abused beagle he rescues. The dog, which Marty names Shiloh, escapes from its cruel owner, Judd Travers, a local hunter known for mistreating his animals. Marty finds Shiloh wandering on the road and brings him home, immediately falling in love with the gentle creature. However, Marty's strict father disapproves of keeping the dog since it legally belongs to Judd, setting the stage for conflict within their family.
Unable to stand seeing Shiloh suffer, Marty secretly builds a shelter for him in an old shed on a hill near their home. He hides the dog from his family, fearful that his father's stern rules will force him to return Shiloh to his abusive owner. The secrecy creates tension and tests Marty's courage as he juggles his loyalty to the dog and the pressures from his family and community.
The situation escalates when a stray dog attacks Shiloh at night, forcing Marty to seek help from his reluctant father, Doc Wallace, portrayed by Rod Steiger, and Mrs. Wallace, played by Bonnie Bartlett. This pivotal moment brings the family closer as they confront the reality of animal cruelty and the meaning of compassion. Ultimately, the story is a touching exploration of friendship, moral choices, and standing up for what is right.
