Cast and Crew of Riff-Raff

Riff-Raff

"Riff-Raff" tells the story of Stevie, recently released from prison in Scotland, who takes a job on a gritty London construction site. Facing tough working conditions and a crew largely operating under aliases to avoid legal issues and protect unemployment benefits, Stevie gradually adapts to this challenging environment. With the help of coworkers, he finds housing by squatting in a council estate. Along the way, Stevie meets Susan, an aspiring professional singer from Ireland, adding a personal and emotional dimension to the narrative.

Trivia:
1. Director Ken Loach is known for his social realism style, and "Riff-Raff" is considered a pioneering work highlighting the struggles of Britain's working class during the 1990s economic climate.
2. Many of the actors in the film were non-professionals drawn from the actual working-class communities, lending the film an authentic and raw atmosphere.
3. The film's portrayal of squatting and employment under aliases was based on real stories Loach gathered from construction workers and squatters during his research, providing a gritty, documentary-like realism to the piece.
