About Will Ferrell
Will Ferrell, an alumnus of the University of Southern California, discovered his passion for performing as a student at University High School in Irvine, California, where he entertained his peers by delivering morning announcements in various comedic voices. He began his journey in comedy as part of The Groundlings, a renowned Los Angeles improvisation group known for launching the careers of stars like Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph, along with former Saturday Night Live legends including Laraine Newman and Jon Lovitz. Here, he formed a close friendship with Chris Kattan, which eventually paved the way for both actors to join Saturday Night Live (SNL). In addition to his work with The Groundlings, Will made guest appearances on television shows such as Strangers with Candy, Grace Under Fire, and Living Single, and he even lent his distinctive voice to the unforgettable armless and legless father in the animated series The Oblongs.
In 1995, Will Ferrell became a featured cast member on SNL during a time of significant re-casting. Despite facing criticism in his first season, being labeled by some as the show's worst cast member, his exceptional impersonations and versatile characters quickly elevated his status, leading many to regard him as one of the show's greatest talents in its history. Throughout his seven-year tenure, he made history by becoming one of the few cast members ever nominated for an Emmy for his performances, notably portraying George W. Bush during the contentious 2000 elections. Will's enduring impact on the series is reflected in his involvement in every SNL film since his debut.
After departing from SNL in 2002, he received a heartfelt farewell from his fellow cast members during the season finale – a unique honor in the show's history. Since leaving the iconic sketch comedy program, Will has successfully transitioned to film, solidifying his reputation as a leading comedic actor. He married in 2000 and currently resides in Los Angeles.
