About Steven Spielberg
Meet the legendary filmmaker, Steven Allan Spielberg! Born on December 18, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Spielberg is a household name in the world of cinema. After studying film in college, he began his directing career in television, working on shows like "Night Gallery" and "Columbo."
His breakthrough film, "Duel" (1971), gained critical acclaim and led to his directorial film debut, "The Sugarland Express" (1974). However, it was his 1975 summer blockbuster, "Jaws," that catapulted him to stardom.
Spielberg continued to dominate the box office with hits like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977), "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), and the "Indiana Jones" original trilogy (1981-89). He then explored drama with "The Color Purple" (1985) and "Empire of the Sun" (1987).
In the 1990s, Spielberg directed the science fiction thriller "Jurassic Park" (1993), which was the highest-grossing film at the time, and the Holocaust drama "Schindler's List" (1993), which is often considered one of the greatest films ever made. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for both films.
Throughout his career, Spielberg has worked with renowned composer John Williams, collaborating on all but five of his feature films. He has also produced successful films and television series, including "Poltergeist" (1982), "Gremlins" (1984), "Back to the Future" (1985), "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988), and the miniseries "Band of Brothers" (2001).
Spielberg co-founded Amblin Entertainment and DreamWorks and has been ranked as the most powerful person in movies by Premiere in 2003. Time listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in 2013. With seven of his films inducted into the National Film Registry, Spielberg's impact on cinema is undeniable. So, grab some popcorn and enjoy the magic of a Spielberg classic!
