Rita Moreno, born Rosa Dolores Alverío Marcano on December 11, 1931, is a celebrated Puerto Rican actress, singer, and dancer with a remarkable career spanning more than seventy years. Renowned for her versatility, she has made significant contributions to film, television, and theater. Moreno's notable film appearances include supporting roles in iconic musicals such as Singin' in the Rain (1952), The King and I (1956), and both the 1961 and 2021 adaptations of West Side Story. Her diverse filmography also features films like Popi (1969), Carnal Knowledge (1971), The Four Seasons (1981), I Like It Like That (1994), and the cult favorite Slums of Beverly Hills (1998). On television, she is well-known for her work on the children's series The Electric Company (1971–1977), her portrayal of Sister Peter Marie Reimondo in HBO's Oz (1997–2003), and voicing the lead character in Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? (1994–1999). More recently, she earned acclaim from her roles in Jane the Virgin (2015–2019) and the revival of One Day at a Time (2017–2020).
