He gained fame for his portrayal of the main character in the initial RoboCop films and the quirky Buckaroo Banzai in the beloved cult film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. His directorial prowess was recognized with an Academy Award nomination for the 1993 short Partners, in which he also showcased his acting skills.
