About Paul Reubens
Paul Reubens, an American actor, writer, producer, game show host, and comedian, born on August 27, 1952, and passed away on July 30, 2023, is most famously known for his iconic character, Pee-wee Herman. Reubens became a member of the Los Angeles improv group, The Groundlings, in the 1970s, where he honed his skills as a comedian and stage actor.
The character Pee-wee Herman was a result of Reubens' hard work and dedication over the years, and in 1982, he showcased his creation in "The Pee-wee Herman Show." The show was a massive hit, running for five months to sold-out audiences and earning a successful HBO special.
Pee-wee Herman quickly became a cult figure, and Reubens embraced the character fully, making all public appearances and interviews as Pee-wee. The release of the first film, "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" in 1985, directed by a then-unknown Tim Burton, was a critical and financial success, eventually becoming a cult classic. The sequel, "Big Top Pee-wee" in 1988, didn't enjoy the same success.
From 1986 to 1990, Reubens starred as Pee-wee in the CBS Saturday-morning children's program, "Pee-wee's Playhouse," solidifying his place as a beloved and enduring children's television icon.
