About Natalie Portman

Meet Natalie Portman, a talented actress who holds both American and Israeli citizenship! Born in Jerusalem as Neta-Lee Hershlag, she started her acting career in the 1994 action thriller Léon: The Professional alongside Jean Reno.

Natalie's big break came when she was cast as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which hit theaters in 1999, 2002, and 2005. Raised in the United States since the age of three, she developed her passion for acting and dancing in New York. Interestingly, she worked on Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace while still attending high school on Long Island!

While balancing her acting career, Natalie pursued higher education at Harvard University, studying psychology and earning her bachelor's degree in 2003. During her time at Harvard, she starred in a second Star Wars film, graced the stage in New York City's The Public Theater production of The Seagull, and continued to act in various movies.

Some of her notable roles include her Golden Globe-winning performance in the 2004 drama Closer, her appearance in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and her Saturn Award-winning role in the political thriller V for Vendetta (2006). She also starred in historical dramas like Goya's Ghosts (2006) and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), as well as the Marvel movies Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013).

In 2010, she delivered a stunning performance in the psychological thriller Black Swan, earning her first Academy Award for Best Actress, a second Golden Globe Award, the SAG Award, the BAFTA Award, and the BFCA Award. Natalie later portrayed First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the biographical drama Jackie (2016), gaining nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She won the BFCA for Best Actress for her remarkable performance.

Her achievements in the film industry extend beyond acting, as she served as the youngest member of the 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival jury in 2008. That same year, she directed a segment of the collective film New York, I Love You. Her directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness, was released in 2015.
