Martin Donovan, born on August 19, 1957, is a distinguished American actor known for his work on both stage and screen. He has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with director Hal Hartley, featuring prominently in several of Hartley's films such as Trust (1990), Surviving Desire (1991), Simple Men (1992), Flirt (1993), Amateur (1994), and The Book of Life (1998), where he notably portrayed Jesus. Donovan gained widespread recognition for his role as Peter Scottson, a DEA agent, in the Showtime series Weeds. Expanding his creative repertoire, he made his debut as a writer and director in 2011 with the film Collaborator, in which he also starred alongside David Morse.
