About Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lin-Manuel Miranda, born on January 16, 1980, is a renowned American composer, lyricist, playwright, and actor celebrated for his groundbreaking work in musical theater. He created and starred in the acclaimed Broadway productions Hamilton and In the Heights. Aside from theater, Miranda contributed as a songwriter to the animated films Moana (2016) and Encanto (2021), and appeared as an actor in Mary Poppins Returns (2018). His distinguished career has earned him prestigious honors including a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, a MacArthur Fellowship, and three Tony Awards.
Miranda wrote the music and lyrics for the musical In the Heights, which debuted on Broadway in 2008. This work earned him the 2008 Tony Award for Best Original Score, while the cast album won the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and the production itself secured the Tony Award for Best Musical. Miranda also authored the book, music, and lyrics for Hamilton, a Broadway musical that garnered the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The production was nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards, winning 11, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book. He received another Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Alexander Hamilton. The cast recording of Hamilton led Billboard's Top Rap Albums chart for ten weeks in 2015. Additionally, The Hamilton Mixtape, a compilation of song covers from the musical curated by and featuring Miranda, reached number one on the Billboard 200 upon its release in December 2016.
