Meet Leslie William Nielsen, OC (February 11, 1926 – November 28, 2010), a Canadian-American actor and comedian who brought joy to audiences with his deadpan delivery and comedic timing. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Nielsen served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked as a disc jockey before pursuing acting. He received a scholarship to the Neighborhood Playhouse and made his television debut in 1948, quickly racking up over 50 appearances in just two years.

Nielsen's film debut came in 1956, and he went on to appear in over 100 films and 1,500 television programs throughout his career, playing over 220 characters. Although he started out in dramas, westerns, and romance films, Nielsen is best known for his comedic roles.

His breakout performance in the 1980 film "Airplane!" marked a turning point in his career, earning him the title of "the Olivier of spoofs" from film critic Roger Ebert. Nielsen continued to find success in the "Naked Gun" film series (1988-1994), based on the short-lived television series "Police Squad!" in which he starred.
