In 1974, Banks moved to Los Angeles and started appearing in small television roles. His breakthrough movie roles include two films starring Eddie Murphy: 48 Hrs. and Beverly Hills Cop. In 48 Hrs., he portrayed a friend of the lead character who meets a tragic end, while in Beverly Hills Cop, he took on the villainous role of a criminal responsible for the death of the lead character's friend.
