About Dolph Lundgren
Meet Dolph Lundgren, a Swedish actor, filmmaker, and martial artist who has made a big name for himself in the action genre. Born on November 3, 1957, Lundgren first gained attention in 1985 when he played the imposing Soviet boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
Before becoming an actor, Lundgren was a chemical engineer, having received degrees from the Royal Institute of Technology and the University of Sydney. He also holds a 4th dan black belt in Kyokushin karate and was the European champion in 1980-81.
Lundgren's journey to acting began when he became a bodyguard for Jamaican singer Grace Jones and moved to New York City to be with her. He started as a model and bouncer at the Manhattan nightclub The Limelight before getting his first film role as a KGB henchman in the James Bond film A View to a Kill.
Since then, Lundgren has starred in over 69 films, including Masters of the Universe (1987), Red Scorpion (1988), The Punisher (1989), I Come in Peace (1990), Cover Up (1991), Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991), Universal Soldier film series (1992, 2009, 2012), Joshua Tree (1993), Pentathlon (1994), Men of War (1994), Johnny Mnemonic (1995), The Shooter (1995), Silent Trigger (1996), The Peacekeeper (1997), and Blackjack (1998).
In 2004, Lundgren directed his first film, The Defender, and has since directed and starred in several other films, including The Mechanik (2005), Missionary Man (2007), Command Performance (2009), and Icarus (2010).
Lundgren has also made a successful return to Hollywood in recent years, with roles in The Expendables (2010), The Expendables 2 (2012), and The Expendables 3 (2014), as well as co-starring in Skin Trade (2014), reprising his role as Ivan Drago in Creed II (2018), and appearing in Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017), Aquaman (2018), and the fifth season of Arrow.
Lundgren's impressive career is a testament to his versatility as an actor and filmmaker, and his contributions to the action genre are undeniable.
