About Bo Derek
Bo Derek stands out as a prominent American film actress and model, widely recognized for her impact on the entertainment industry. At just 16, she met actor-director John Derek in 1971, who, continuing his trend of mentoring aspiring stars, shaped her into a celebrated figure in Hollywood. Their relationship blossomed, and in 1974, John married Bo when she was only 18, marking the beginning of her meteoric rise in fame.
Bo made her film debut in the 1977 movie Orca, playing a minor role that involved a dramatic encounter with a whale. However, it was her performance in Blake Edwards' 10 (1979) that catapulted her to stardom, where she famously appeared in slow motion along a beach, capturing the attention of star Dudley Moore and audiences worldwide. Following this breakout role, Bo starred in a series of adventure films, including the John-directed Tarzan the Ape Man (1981) and Bolero (1984).
After a hiatus from acting, Bo made a comeback in Ghosts Can't Do It (1990), another collaboration with her husband, although it did not achieve commercial success. She continued to diversify her portfolio with appearances in films such as the Italian Sognando La California (1991), Woman of Desire (1994), and the comedy classic Tommy Boy (1995), alongside David Spade and Chris Farley.
In 2003, Bo played a supporting role as the mother of the main character B-Rad in a comedic film, along with serving as a judge at the Miss Universe 2004 pageant. Her television credentials include noteworthy roles in series like 7th Heaven, Lucky, and Queen of Swords, and she starred as a shrewd businesswoman in the 2006 telenovela Fashion House.
Beyond her acting career, Bo Derek is deeply committed to various political and social causes, notably advocating for disabled veterans and championing animal rights as a spokesperson for the Animal Welfare Institute. An avid equestrian, she has also published an autobiography titled Everything That Matters in Life I Learned from Horses, reflecting her enduring connection with these majestic animals.
