About Anna Sawai
Meet Anna Sawai, a talented Japanese-New Zealand actress, dancer, and singer! Anna started her film career in 2009 with a supporting role in the martial arts film Ninja Assassin. She later pursued music as one of the lead vocalists in the J-pop girl group FAKY from 2013 to 2018, where she sang in both Japanese and English.
Anna's big break in acting came with her co-starring role in Justin Lin's Fast & Furious sequel, F9. But did you know that she was chosen from 10,000 applicants to play the title role in the stage musical Annie in Japan back in 2004? Her professional film debut was in Ninja Assassin, where she portrayed the rebellious teenage female ninja Kiriko.
In 2019, Anna starred in the BBC crime drama Giri/Haji and the action film F9. She chose the role of Elle in F9 because she grew up watching the Fast & Furious films and admired their diverse cast. After leaving FAKY in 2018 to focus on acting, Anna signed with major U.S. talent agency WME and was announced to play the savvy career woman Naomi in Apple's adaptation of Pachinko.
Born in New Zealand and raised in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Japan, Anna was influenced by her father's love for The Beatles and The Carpenters and her mother's opera studies, which gave her singing lessons. With her multicultural background and diverse talents, Anna Sawai is definitely an actress to watch!
