Cast and Crew of Kundun

Kundun

"Kundun" is a biographical film that portrays the life of the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet. The story follows his early years, his unexpected recognition as the Dalai Lama, and the challenges he faces following the Chinese invasion and occupation of Tibet. Forced into exile in 1959, he finds refuge in India, where he works to preserve Tibetan culture and seek international support for his people.

Trivia/Behind-the-Scenes:
1. Director Martin Scorsese wanted to create an authentic portrayal of Tibetan culture and went to great lengths to ensure accuracy, including filming on location in India and Morocco, as filming in Tibet was impossible due to political restrictions.
2. The film's score was composed by Philip Glass, whose evocative music captures the spiritual and emotional tone of the Dalai Lama's journey.
3. Many Tibetan monks were cast as extras to add authenticity to the depiction of religious rituals and ceremonies, contributing to the film’s deep cultural resonance.
