Su un pianeta molto simile alla Terra di nome Zay, l’Impero di Guylos e la Repubblica di Helic si fanno da anni guerra tramite alcuni mostri simili a dinosauri, chiamati zoids. Essi non sono altro che degli esseri ibridi composti di materiale organico e robotico. Coloro che utilizzano gli zoids sono perlopiù avventurieri e mercenari senza veri ideali, che lottano solamente per denaro. I protagonisti principali della serie sono il giovane Van Flyheight, la bella ed enigmatica Fiona, il bricconcello Irvine e l’energica trasportatrice Moonbay.
