Honeyland

Медена земја

If one breaks the rule, everyone pays the price.

Honeyland follows the life of the last female wild beekeeper in Europe, Hatidze Muratova, who lives in a remote Macedonian village. She practices a rare and ancient tradition of sustainable beekeeping, harvesting honey with care and respect for the natural world. Her philosophy centers on a vital rule: only to take half of the honey from each hive, leaving the other half for the bees to thrive.

However, when a nomadic family moves nearby and disrupts this delicate balance by over-harvesting honey without regard for the bees, it sets off a chain of environmental and personal challenges. Hatidze faces the daunting task of educating the newcomers about the importance of maintaining harmony with nature and the consequences of greed. The film delves deeply into themes of sustainability, coexistence, and the fragile relationship between humans and the environment.

As Honeyland unfolds, viewers witness not only the struggle to save the bee populations but also the emotional journey of Hatidze as she grapples with loneliness, tradition, and hope for the future. The documentary highlights the resilience of both the bees and their caretaker, illustrating a powerful message about preserving natural balance in a rapidly changing world.
