Dead of Night

"Deathdream" (1974) follows a young soldier named Charles Brooks, played by John Marley, who is believed to have died in Vietnam but mysteriously returns home alive. His family, including his wife Christine Brooks (played by Lynn Carlin), is initially overjoyed but soon unsettled by his eerie, reclusive behavior and nocturnal wanderings, hinting at a supernatural transformation. The film blends horror with wartime trauma, presenting a chilling commentary on the psychological scars of war.

Trivia:
1. "Deathdream" is considered an early entry into the zombie subgenre, predating many popular undead films by exploring the theme of a soldier returning from war with a disturbing undead twist.
2. The movie was directed by Bob Clark, who later gained fame for directing cult classics such as "Black Christmas" and "A Christmas Story." His experience with horror elements in "Deathdream" helped shape his subsequent work.
3. The film's eerie atmosphere was enhanced by the minimalistic music score, which employed unsettling sounds rather than traditional melodies, amplifying the sense of unease throughout the movie.
