Set against the backdrop of post-war Poland, "Colonel Kwiatkowski" follows the journey of Andrzej Kwiatkowski, a dedicated military doctor portrayed by Marek Kondrat. Serving in a barracks hospital located in the Western Territories, Kwiatkowski's medical skills earn him recognition and a coveted week’s leave after a successful operation on Colonel Kiziora of the UB. This respite from duty sets the stage for unexpected adventures and challenges far from the confines of the hospital.
Accompanied by his loyal friend, sierżant Dudek, played by Zbigniew Zamachowski, Kwiatkowski embarks on a daring escapade by stealing a truck destined for Warsaw. Amidst the city's war-ravaged ruins, he reconnects with his past when he encounters Krysia, his prewar neighbor. Their poignant reunion quickly blossoms into love, bringing a touch of hope and warmth to the bleak surroundings. However, the complexities of post-war tensions soon surface.
At a lively dance held in the remnants of the "Polonia" hotel, Kwiatkowski finds himself embroiled in a confrontation with a Russian officer. In a clever twist to preserve his dignity and navigate the precarious political climate, he assumes the identity of a high-ranking UB colonel. This daring impersonation leads to a series of comedic and dramatic events, highlighting themes of identity, courage, and survival in a turbulent era.
