Cast and Crew of Cocolors

Cocolors

"Cocolors" follows the story of Aki, a courageous but not inherently brave boy, who is committed to protecting his sickly and mute friend Fuyu. The two, along with their small group, inhabit the underground concrete warrens where survivors have taken refuge after the devastating eruption of Mt. Fuji. As illness and despair spread through their community, Fuyu dreams of the outside world — a place he longs to see but is too fragile to ever reach. The narrative explores themes of hope, friendship, and the longing for freedom with the poignant question: what color is the sky beyond their subterranean world? Interesting trivia includes that the film's unique underground setting was inspired by real-life urban underground shelters in Japan, lending authenticity to the atmosphere; the voice actors for Aki and Fuyu immersed themselves in their characters' emotions by spending time together to build genuine camaraderie; and the color palette of the film shifts subtly to reflect Fuyu's dreams and the contrast between the grim underground and the vibrant world above, emphasizing the emotional tone throughout the production.
