Will, a contender in the New York City mayoral race, seizes the opportunity to invite Annie into his life as a campaign tactic. Although he believes himself to be acting as Annie's guardian angel, his campaign advisors have much more sinister motives, using the young girl to further their political agenda. As the story unfolds, Will is initially oblivious to Annie's self-assured nature and sunny disposition, which captivates the hearts of those around her.

The plot thickens when the seemingly cynical and indifferent Will Stacks begins to see Annie's optimistic influence on his life and those around him. Her unyielding belief that "the sun will come out tomorrow" serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Through their unique bond, the unlikely duo comes to realize that perhaps their roles as guardian and mentee had switched.
